As a senior researcher and outreach coordinator, Michael investigates project systems through social and lifecycle analysis to better inform, develop, and effectively communicate strategic solutions to target audiences.
He brings a mix of professional, industrial, and academic expertise ranging from forest science and management to engineering and optimization to interpretation and education. During his recent graduate research at the University of Minnesota, Michael explored a combination of biometrics and sustainability planning. He has worked with the Forest Stewardship Council, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the Nebraska Forest Service in various forest inventory operations and analysis, and he continues to assist forest product mills with sustainability planning. Additionally, he has developed curriculum and passive signage for a variety of educational programs including environmental and outdoor education.
Michael’s passion for adventure and love of the outdoors inspires him to spend much of his free time mountaineering, running ultramarathons, ice and rock climbing, cross country skiing, backpacking, and participating in other recreational pursuits. Michael also volunteers on the boards of the American Alpine Club’s Twin Cities Chapter and the North Country Trail Association’s Arrowhead Chapter.
